Members from five German academies and colleges meet to network across academies and discuss tomorrow's science system.

ALLEA, the Swiss Embassy in Berlin and Die Junge Akademie are partnering up to host the event "Towards Climate Sustainability – Taking the Academic System from Evidence to Action." The event will present some of the major findings from ALLEA’s report, and it will also feature representatives from key stakeholder groups within the academic system who will present the programmes and strategies they have developed to embed sustainable practices in their operations and reduce the levels of emissions within their sectors.

Under the title "Good Working Conditions in Science - Towards a Reform of the Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act", the Federal Ministry of Education and Research is organising a discussion panel on 27 June 2022 to take a closer look at the results of the evaluation of the Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act and to discuss its further development with various science stakeholders. Doris Segets will represent Die Junge Akademie on the panel "Is there a need to reform the WissZeitVG?"

Scientific selection processes are essentially based on quality valuations about research. These quality valuations can be anonymous, as in peer review, or public, as in the case of the review. In any case, they are gatekeepers that determine which research contributions receive visibility and which do not. And: they are themselves places of scientific dispute. In the workshop "Review, Peer-Review, Tweet. Old and new quality valuations in science", members of the RG Cultures of Debate want to discuss which norms shape this form of debate and how they are changing. Three sessions with different guests are planned.

The ALLEA Working Group on Climate Sustainability in the Academic System invites to a virtual panel discussion. The event offers a preview of the report the working group is preparing on the topic, followed by a panel discussion. The challenges as well as opportunities that lie within academia’s transition to climate sustainability will be addressed, while also highlighting best-practise examples with an international and interdisciplinary perspective.

The Board's discussion series "The unsaid in science - religion, emotions and values - the somewhat different fireside evening" continues. Anne Peters, Director at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law Heidelberg, is invited to the third virtual fireside evening.

The Board has launched a new series of talks entitled "Das Ungesagte in der Wissenschaft - Religion, Emotionen und Werte - Der etwas andere Kaminabend". Christoph Markschies, President of the BBAW and Chair of Ancient Christianity at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, is invited to the second virtual fireside evening.

Under the motto "Das Ungesagte in der Wissenschaft - Religion, Emotionen und Werte - Der etwas andere Kaminabend", the Board is launching a new series of talks. Cyrus Schayegh, Professor of International History and Politics at the Graduate Institute Geneva, is invited to the first virtual fireside evening.

On the occasion of the project Wissensstadt Berlin 2021 („Berlin - City of Knowledge 2021“), the city of Berlin as a location for research and science is presenting itself to a broad public in numerous events this year.

With an event titled "Remembering, differently?", Die Junge Akademie is also participating in the project. Our members will discuss forms of remembering and possibilities of historiography in the arts and sciences.
