Ancient historian Christopher Degelmann honoured
Die Junge Akademie congratulates Christopher Degelmann, who was awarded the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Prize of the German Research Foundation (DFG) on 4 June 2024 in Berlin. The prize is endowed with 200,000 euros each, which the winners can use for their research work for three years. It is awarded annually to 10 outstanding young researchers.
The ancient historian Dr Christopher Degelmann conducts research into the political culture of classical Athens, the Roman Republic and the early imperial period, among other things. He has been a member of the Junge Akademie since 2021, where he is involved in working groups on sustainability, science policy and artificial intelligence, among other things. He currently holds a visiting professorship at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.
In addition to Degelmann, astrophysicist Dr Dominika Wylezalek, who will become a member of the Junge Akademie on 22 June, also received an award.
Previous winners of the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Prize at die Junge Akademie include Isabelle Dolezalek (2023), Fruzsina Molnár-Gábor (2020), Michael Saliba (2020), Erik Schilling (2020), Valeska Huber (2018), Philipp Kanske (2017) and Tobias Erb (2016).
