The recently concluded AcadeMIX2024, held in Berlin from May 21-23, was a resounding success, serving as a testament to the power of interdisciplinary collaboration in academia. Supported by the German Israeli Foundation (GIF), the event was jointly organized by the Israel Young Academy and the German Young Academy, with the aim of fostering inter and multidisciplinary collaborations among scholars.
The three-day seminar provided a unique platform for scholars from various intellectual fields and disciplines to come together, exchange ideas, and explore new research methodologies. This year's theme, "The Importance of Research in Times of Crisis," added a timely and relevant dimension to the discussions.
The event kicked off with welcome remarks from representatives of the Young Academies, Itay Halevy and Lara Keuck, followed by an introduction of participants and a round table discussion providing insights into the activities and success stories of the respective academies.
Highlighting best practices and sharing success stories, participants engaged in lively discussions on topics ranging from climate sustainability and engaged science to the origins of elements in the universe and the neuroscience of dreaming. The TED Talks sessions, moderated by Lara Keuck and Mira Sievers, further enriched the intellectual discourse, covering a diverse array of subjects including archaeology, ethics in the digital age, and the neuroscience of dreaming.
Throughout the event, participants were encouraged to actively participate in Q&A sessions, fostering an environment of open dialogue and collaboration. Joint meals and breaks provided further opportunities for networking and informal discussions, strengthening bonds among participants.
A particularly noteworthy session was the round table discussion with invited guests, including Ute Frevert, Christoph Markschies, and Christian Doeller, who provided valuable insights into the importance of research in addressing global crises.
In conclusion, AcadeMIX2024 was not only a platform for scientific exchange but also a testament to the power of collaboration and dialogue in advancing knowledge and addressing pressing global challenges. As participants bid farewell, they left inspired and energized, ready to continue their academic pursuits and contribute to positive change in the world.
