Boundaries
The RG Boundaries addressed the conceptualisation of "boundaries" in the social sciences and in other disciplines. In this context, the RG questioned how the different disciplines define the term boundary and what theoretical models formed the basis for the definition of boundaries.
The RG Boundaries addressed the conceptualisation of "boundaries" in the social sciences and in other disciplines. In this context, the RG questioned how the different disciplines define the term boundary and what theoretical models formed the basis for the definition of boundaries. For select phenomena, it investigated the mechanisms of cultural, social, physical and/or territorial boundaries and their cognitive conceptualisations.
The RG Boundaries organised several public events including a lecture by Michèle Lamont, Harvard University, on "Repertoires of academic evaluation and the construction of disciplinary boundaries" as well as the interdisciplinary workshop "Comparative methods in a connected world" in summer 2007 in Göttingen and it published its findings in a range of publications.
